Email

Configuration software

If you use a Microsoft Windows operating system, the easiest way to configure (or reconfigure) your computer to use our email service is to use our configuration software - see our Support Home Page for more information and to download the software.

Manual settings

If you do not use a Microsoft Windows operating system or you wish to set up your email manually (see instructions below) you will need the following information:

Email address: You choose your email address when you register for the Cornwall Internet service.

User name: Your email address.

Password: Your password is provided to you when you register for the Cornwall Internet service. It is usually the same as your dialup password.

POP3 Server: pop.swnet.co.uk

SMTP Server: asmtp.swnet.co.uk

SMTP Authentication: Required
Cornwall Internet requires SMTP traffic (outgoing email) to be authenticated. Just as you use your email address and password to retrieve your email, you use your email address and password to send email. This is an anti-spam security measure that prevents unauthorised use of our network and servers. Current versions of most major email packages are able to use SMTP Authentication.
(This does not apply to some customers who signed up with us prior to mid-2002 - they use a different SMTP server that allows access only from a Cornwall Internet dialup connection.)

Microsoft Outlook Express - Manual Setup

If you use a Microsoft Windows operating system and wish to manually set up Microsoft Outlook Express to send and receive email using Cornwall Internet follow the instructions below. You will need to have installed Outlook Express on your computer and registered with Cornwall Internet before setting up your email account.

The instructions should enable you to set up connections using most recent Windows versions of Outlook Express. You should note, however, that the procedure may vary slightly from what is set out below depending on the versions of the software and operating system installed and the configuration that you use.

Step 1.

Click on the Outlook Express icon to launch the program.

Step 2.

With Outlook Express open, click Tools, then select Accounts to bring up the Internet Accounts window.

Step 3.

Click the Add button and select Mail to launch the Add New Mail Account Internet Connection wizard.

Step 4.

Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From line of your emails. Click the next button to continue ...

Step 5.

Enter your Cornwall Internet email address. Click the next button to continue ...

Step 6.

Select POP3 for the incoming mail server. Enter pop.swnet.co.uk as the Incoming (POP3) server and asmtp.swnet.co.uk as the Outgoing (SMTP) server. Click the next button to continue...

Step 7.

Your Account Name is your Cornwall Internet email address. Enter this in the Account Name box and your password in the password box. Check the Remember Password box if you want Outlook Express to remember your password so that you do not have to enter it each time you send mail or check for new mail. Click next...

On the next window, just click the Finish button and your new account will now appear in the Internet Accounts manager window as pop.swnet.co.uk.

Step 8.

Double-click on the pop.swnet.co.uk account listing you just created to bring up the account Properties window. You should adjust the connection settings so that they look like following with your own account information:

Step 9.

Click on the Servers tab and make sure the following information is set correctly. Be sure to click the check box under Outgoing Mail Server that says 'My server requires authentication' Click the Settings button to set the authentication settings...

Step 10.

Set the Outgoing Mail Server with your username and password information like below.

Step 11.

Click OK, click OK, click Close.

Outlook Express is now ready to send and receive email from your Cornwall Internet email account.
